In recent years, Indigenous-led assessments have become a key component of impact assessment processes in various jurisdictions across Canada. This session will explore how these processes came about, lessons learned from Indigenous governments and First Nations who have conducted or in the process of conducting their own assessments and how the legislative changes are enabling these assessments to happen. The session will look how these Indigenous-led assessments support decision making, assist in determining if consent can be given, and help build collaborative approaches to project and mitigation design, while supporting community based monitoring. This session will be recorded and available online post convention for Individual and Corporate Members attending PDAC 2024 with an All Access Pass.
