Mat Dunlop is a Senior Geologist with Freeport-McMoRan Exploration in Tucson, Arizona where he runs Freeport's Exploration Mineralogy and Geochemistry Laboratory and works with the Innovations team to integrate core scanning and other new and emerging technologies into Freeport's exploration workflow. Prior to joining Freeport in 2017 he worked as a contract geologist between semesters of graduate school, with experience in generative exploration for Carlin-type gold deposits and Ni-Cu-PGE deposits. Mat got his B.S. in Geology from SUNY Potsdam (2011), his MS in Geology from Indiana University (2013), and his PhD in Geology from the University of Wyoming (2021). His graduate researched focused on the petrology and geochemistry of layered mafic intrusions, Ni-Cu-PGE deposits, and stable isotopes of platinum in PGE ores.
