Access to Capital
Exploration is the riskiest stage of the mineral development cycle, as only 1 out 10,000 identified mineral prospects will lead to a new mine. As a result, attracting capital to help finance exploration projects can be challenging. PDAC undertakes a wide range of activities to help companies finance mineral exploration in Canada and abroad.
Geoscience & Land Access
PDAC advocates for improvements to the type, quantity and quality of public geoscience information available to mineral explorers.
Health & Safety
The Health & Safety (H&S) Program is a key element in PDAC’s strategic priority of responsible exploration. The mandate of the program is to build the capacity of companies exploring in Canada to improve their health & safety performance and achieve zero harm.
The three core activities of the H&S program include the annual health and safety survey undertaken in partnership with the Association for Mineral Exploration, an annual H&S short course offered at the Convention and outreach to various industry conferences on the topic of H&S.
Indigenous Affairs
The PDAC Indigenous Affairs Program works to support the development of positive relationships between communities and mineral exploration and mining companies, as well as increased participation by Indigenous Peoples in the economic opportunities generated by the mineral industry.

International Affairs
Over the last twenty years, the Canadian exploration and mining industry has successfully leveraged its domestic expertise to go global, establishing Canada as a world leader in mineral exploration and development in particular. As a result, Canadian companies now explore and mine around the world, with Canadian Mining Assets Abroad (CMAA) totalling over $170 billion in 2015, in 102 countries.
Sustainability
Responsible exploration is about behavioural change. PDAC’s efforts to improve industry performance are aimed at catalyzing change by supporting members in their environmental, social and governance capabilities, and helping companies maximize the contribution that the mineral industry can make to sustainable development around the world.
While this work takes place year-round, the annual PDAC Convention provides a platform for all of this work to come together in the form of the Sustainability Program.
