Jim has 42 years of global experience in exploration, advanced project development, and applied research on base and precious metal deposits. His M.Sc (1986) and PhD (1991) from the University of Arizona focused on large porphyry copper-molybdenum deposits. From 1991 to 1998 he led industry-funded, applied research projects at the Mineral Deposit Research Unit which developed widely utilized exploration models for alkalic copper-gold porphyry deposits and reduced intrusion-related gold deposits. Jim has worked with many junior to major exploration and mining companies on diverse types of gold, copper, molybdenum, tungsten, zinc, lead, silver, and uranium deposits. During his 22-year association with Hunter Dickinson companies he was technical team leader on large, advanced exploration and economic-stage development programs where he specialized in merging geological data with engineering, environmental, and metallurgical disciplines to reduce project risk. He has participated in major porphyry discoveries at Pebble (Alaska), Xietongmen (Tibet), and AuRORA (BC).
