Kyela de Weerdt
Kyela oversees engagements with Canada’s largest public companies conducted on behalf of SHARE’s institutional investor clients. SHARE represents universities, pension funds, foundations, religious investors and Indigenous trusts, with a total of more than $150 billion in AUM. As part of her work, she is responsible for a mining sector engagement strategy to address client concerns of ESG risk in mining supply chains. This work includes leading multi-party investor engagements of mining companies through the global Climate Action 100+ and Climate Engagement Canada initiatives totaling together over $75 trillion in AUM. Along with decarbonization of the sector, Kyela’s experience has included a focus on local communities and workers as a key component of social risk and opportunity in global mining supply chains. She has led efforts to integrate local content best practice into international reporting standards, industry performance and host government policy. She brings mining company consulting experience and is the author of several research papers, articles and guidance documents on themes including the consideration of local businesses in the sector’s scope 3 reporting processes and best practice procurement from Indigenous businesses.
Kyela holds a BAH in Global Development from Queens University.
