What inspired you to pursue a career in the mineral industry?
I was a physics student in 3rd year at Queen's University looking at bleak career prospects in Physics. I got a summer job in Northern Saskatchewan working at Rabbit Lake for Gulf Minerals on their Uranium project and was hooked.
What project stands out as the most rewarding in your career, and why?
Many projects rank highly and it is difficult to choose one. Perhaps I am just fortunate, but I think many geoscientists would say the same. While at Aerodat Limited we developed a Through-Ice Bathymetry System for the Canadian Hydrographic Survey based on a custom (low frequency) helicopter electromagnetic system. The project involved combining field work in the Arctic with project work in the main office. The solution required a multi-disciplinary approach managing and blending hardware development, field operations, electromagnetic theory and data processing. This was one of the first successful applications of airborne electromagnetic inversion, and was a breakthrough that set the stage for further developments.
