Sally Goodman recently retired after a long career in academia, consulting and the exploration industry. She has a BSc Geological Sciences (Leeds University, UK), MSc Mineral Exploration (Royal School of Mines, London, UK) and PhD Economic Geology (Imperial College, London, UK). She began her career at Aberdeen University, working in association with the British Geological Survey in the Scottish Highlands, after which she held a number of research and teaching positions at Aberdeen and St Andrews Universities (Scotland), and McGill and Concordia Universities (Montreal, Canada). 

As a consultant in structural geology for SRK consulting and CAE Mining from 2000-2015, Sally worked on a wide range of deposit types and commodities for junior, mid-size and major exploration/mining companies across the globe, from grassroots plays to operating mines, applying structural geology to exploration targeting, resource development and geotechnical studies. Subsequent to this, she held technical/executive roles with Goldcorp (Director, Geology & Mineral Resources), Atlantic Gold (Chief Geoscientist) and Newmont (Head, Global Discovery). In the latter role, she led a team of 40+ specialists in geophysics, geochemistry, ore systems and exploration technology, supporting Newmont’s global portfolio of gold and gold-copper projects. Sally retired from this position in June 2025, and currently lives in British Columbia, Canada.

Sally is a registered Professional Geologist in British Columbia and Ontario, is a Fellow of the Society of Economic Geologists and the London Geological Society, and is a Board Member of the Association for Mineral Exploration of British Columbia. She was previously Chair of the Board of the Mineral Deposits Research Unit, University of British Columbia, and was Society of Economic Geologists’ Thayer-Lindsay Lecturer in 2023.
