Canada wants $1-trillion in investment. Mineral exploration is where it starts
In an opinion article published in The Hill Times, PDAC President Karen Rees makes the case for sustained investment in mineral exploration as Canada works to attract investment and advance major projects.
“If Canada is serious about catalyzing $1-trillion in investment, it must start with exploration,” she writes.
The article highlights two of PDAC’s recommendations for Budget 2026: making the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC) and Critical Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (CMETC) permanent, and expanding Canadian Exploration Expense (CEE) eligibility to include engineering, economic and feasibility studies.
These measures would provide greater certainty for companies and investors and help close the financing gap that can prevent Canadian discoveries from advancing toward production.
