International standards for valuing mineral properties recognize three basic approaches: cost, market and income. The session will describe the principal methods in each approach, with worked examples that describe both the logic and the math used to arrive at a value. The pros and cons of the methods will be discussed, including cautions about certain methods. Some observations about presenting evaluation results in a courtroom will be offered. The session is intended for mining professionals without a finance background, and finance professionals without a technical background, to learn valuation basics and how reality on the ground is translated to the valuation.
