Devon Patterson is an Indigenous man of Serpent River First Nation nearing graduation from 4th year in Earth Sciences with a minor in environmental chemistry from Laurentian University in addition to an advanced diploma in chemical engineering technology from Mohawk College. Previous employment includes Environment Canada’s National Laboratory of Environmental Testing as a sample preparation technologist, the Ontario Geological Survey as a geological field assistant and Alamos Gold as a geological field mapping assistant. Informing his ideas through vigorous study and lived experience having co-led geology tours for the Temagami and Matachewan First Nations, attainment of the Mineral Resources Industry Leadership certificate from the Goodman School of Mines and as one of PDAC’s Inaugural Indigenous youth and early career ambassadors. Devon can share a unique perspective on the challenging realities faced by indigenous youth in Canada’s mining and mineral exploration sector.
