Jan Smit is Vice President of XPS Industry Relevant Solutions, a company that provides pragmatic industry consultancy and services in Mineralogy, Mineral Processing, Hydrometallurgy, Process Control & Simulation, Materials Technology and Pyrometallurgy. A graduate of Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, Jan studied Mining Engineering with a specialization in Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy. He has over thirty-five years of extensive international experience in metallurgical process development, projects, operations, technology strategy, innovation and business development. Previously, Jan has worked for Anglo American and Foskor in South Africa, Codelco in Chile, and Sherritt International, in Canada. He has authored numerous publications and patents in hydrometallurgy and mineral processing, covering subject matter areas such as comminution, flotation, gold recovery, nickel laterites, pressure leaching and arsenic management. He is a Board member of MIRARCO, a member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), as well as a member of the Dutch Royal Institute of Engineers (KIVI).
