An executive with more than 30 years of lived experience leading sustainability and responsible investment across the global mining and resources sector, he has held consultancy, managerial, executive, and board-level roles in diverse contexts—from remote exploration camps and mine sites to corporate headquarters and government ministries. He has partnered with governments, investors, and mining companies in >50 countries to advance and implement operationally robust sustainable mining practices. A former SVP Sustainability at Kinross and Chief Sustainability Officer at Resource Capital Funds, he has also held senior roles at Centerra Gold and Barrick. He has advised numerous NGOs and international donors—including the World Bank, DFID, USAID, and various UN agencies—on mining development programs and policy reform. He has advised and supported companies such as AngloGold Ashanti, Anglo American, Gold Fields, Rio Tinto, BHP, and De Beers, guiding them on strategy, governance, and operational execution. He has led integration in multi-billion-dollar acquisitions, restructurings, and divestments, ensuring compliance with global sustainability frameworks while meeting investor expectations. His expertise and leadership span environmental management, H&S, security, community relations, government affairs, and permitting. He has ensured compliance with international financing requirements and led sustainability reporting aligned with global standards. A recognized thought leader and now an independent consultant, he draws on his extensive lived experience to guide companies on sustainability strategy, governance, implementation, and responsible investment. He currently serves on the boards of Cuso International, International Women in Mining, and Benwerrin Partners, a specialist investment firm focused on structured finance in mining. In these roles, he advises on governance, implementation, and partnerships to enhance sector transparency and promote responsible mining practices.
