Natasha Martin

Deputy Grand Chief, Mushkegowuk Council
Timmins, Canada

Natasha’s earliest memories are with her grandparents and being on the land. Teachings of how everything that we need is in the land, and how the land will take care and sustain us. Teachings that her grandparents have instilled in her. The experiences resonate in her life, the Lessons of the Omushkego Illliluwuk and their Natural Laws. She continues the Cree way of Life with her husband, Lawrence, in traditional harvesting. Being from the Indigenous community of Taykwa Tagamou Nation, and having grew up in the Moose Cree First Nation, both places she calls home. Throughout her experiences, personal and professional, the Land and everything within it, have always been a priority. She knows resource development is happening and how it benefits communities, she believes that there must be a balance. Natasha Martin currently serves as Deputy Grand Chief of Mushkegowuk Council. She sees her role as being a Helper/Wesh-kah-bay-ow. Assisting and advocating for Communities, its People and the Land they occupy. It’s a role that she has naturally grown into and doing exceptionally well. Continuing to work together with the communities she serves, DGC Martin will uphold the traditional knowledge of the Omushkego Illiluwk. Also, honouring the teachings of her grandparents.
