Douglas Schouten

CTO, Ideon Technologies, Inc.
Richmond, Canada

Doug is a global leader in muon tomography and one of the few people in the world with the expertise to turn high energy physics research into industry problems solved. Previously he led an international team in characterizing the quantum properties of the Higgs boson at CERN and developed novel multivariate machine learning algorithms. More recently, he has developed sensor technologies in multiple generations of muon detectors and an ultra-sensitive gravimeter, and built novel software libraries of geophysical data inversion algorithms. Doug holds a BSc. (Hons) in physics and computer science from UBC, and a PhD in subatomic physics from SFU, where he is also Adjunct Professor of Physics. Doug has extensive expertise in physics simulations, data analysis and statistical inference – including machine learning methods and detector design.
