Irvine Annesley

Adjunct Professor, U of SK - Geological Sciences
Saskatoon, Canada

Irvine R. Annesley (Ph.D., P.Geo.) is Adjunct Professor in Geological Sciences at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada) and Emeritus Professor (former Professor 2016 – 2022) in Mining and Mineral Exploration Geology at École Nationale Supérieure de Géologie (Nancy, France). Also, he is technical advisor to some junior exploration companies in northern Saskatchewan, and former VP Exploration of Appia REU Corp. Dr. Annesley is currently co-leading an NSERC-funded research project at U. of Saskatchewan: Unlocking Canada's rare earth element (REE) potential: a multidisciplinary approach to understand high-grade critical REE mineralization. He has >>40 years of geological mapping, global exploration, applied research, and academic teaching experience in uranium, rare earth elements (REE), gold, base metals, and iron ore; including 6.5 years as Full Professor at ENSG - Université de Lorraine, 5.5 years as Director of Exploration with JNR Resources Inc., where he was a pivotal member of the Fraser Lakes Zone B uranium-thorium-REE deposit discovery, 19 years as senior research geoscientist/manager carrying out applied mineral exploration R&D with the Saskatchewan Research Council, and 10 summers (1978-1987) with the Geological Survey of Canada as a geological field mapper of Canada’s north. He has been active in the teaching/supervision of numerous graduate students since 2003 in the areas of field geology, core logging, petrochronology, Precambrian mineral deposits, structural geology, and 3D geomodeling in Canada, Europe, and Australia. His research has focused mainly on the UC-type uranium deposits (Athabasca Basin), as well as global U-Th-REE deposits. This research has helped develop innovative geophysical/geochemical exploration tools/workflows for making new economic discoveries. In 2015, Dr. Annesley was co-awarded the CIMM Barlow Medal; in recognition of best geological paper.
