Juan Carlos is the Director of Geoscience for Kinross Gold Corporation. He completed his B.Sc., in Geology in Colombia, and earned an M.Sc. and a Ph.D., respectively, from Shimane University (Japan) and the University of Windsor (Canada). He serves as an adjunct Faculty at the University of Toronto and Laurentian University, where He leads various innovation projects for the mining industry spanning fundamental geoscience and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for exploration and mining operations. He has over 20 years of research and mining industry experience exploring and modeling base and precious metals orebodies in diverse mineral systems such as porphyry, skarn, VMS, IOCG, sedimentary hosted, epithermal, and shear-hosted deposits in over 15 different countries. His approach to mineral deposits includes a combination of detailed field structural geology and geostatistical analysis of mining and geoscience data. He has developed numerous machine learning applications for Orebody Knowledge to reduce geological uncertainty and economic risks.
