Kurt Breede is a Member of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), and a Member and Board Director of the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). With over 25 years of experience as a geologist and engineer, Kurt specializes in technical due diligence and financial analysis supporting Corporate Development including Mergers & Acquisitions and Capital Markets.
In June 2023, Kurt joined Scotiabank's Global Mining and Metals Investment Banking team as Technical Director, Mining overseeing technical reviews of mining assets in support of Scotiabank’s advisory to mining clients around the world. Prior to joining Scotiabank, Kurt was Technical Director at OCIM, a private French-based precious metal trader, providing technical oversight of metal prepayments and growing the business pipeline by 4x to over US$0.5B.
From 2007 to 2017, Kurt was Managing Partner and Vice President Technical Services at Watts, Griffis and McOuat where he was lead author, co-author, and peer reviewer to over 40 technical studies as an independent Qualified Person (QP) in resource and reserve estimation and audits as defined by NI 43-101 of the Canadian Securities Administrators.
Over the course of his career, Kurt has provided technical advisory services to government, finance, and mining sectors on over US$100B worth of assets for private and publicly traded mining companies, including various venture capital, private equity, First Nation groups, government agencies, and sovereign wealth funds from Canada and abroad.
Kurt holds a B.A.Sc. in Geological Engineering from the University of Toronto, and is registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) and Geologist (P.Geo.) in the province of Ontario.
