Ross Large is a Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Economic Geology and the past
Director of CODES, an ARC Centre of Excellence in Ore deposits at the University of
Tasmania. For thirteen years after graduation Ross worked in mineral exploration for Geopeko Ltd., in various Australian locations, before joining the staff of the University of Tasmania, and in 1989 established CODES as a world leading ore deposit research centre. He is best known for his research on VMS deposits, but has also published extensively on sediment-hosted Zn-Pb, sediment-hosted gold, IOCG and most recently on porphyry copper deposits. In 2018 he was awarded an Order of Australia for services to the minerals industry and to education. He received the SEG Gold Medal for life time achievements in Economic Geology in 2021. Ross is currently working as a consultant to the minerals industry.
