Judges

James is an academic and exploration geologist with over 30 years experience in academic research and consulting in mineral exploration.  He has worked on base and precious metal magmatic and hydrothermal mineral deposits all over Canada.  He received the Howard Street Robinson medal of the Geological Association of Canada in 2021.

James received his B.Sc from the University of Waterloo in 1987 and his MSc and PhD from McGill University in 1989 and 1993.  He did a postdoctoral fellowship at Universitaet Bayreuth in 1994-96 before joining Osisko in 1996.  He joined the faculty of the University of Toronto in 1999 where he stayed until moving to Carleton University in 2017.  He has maintained a continuous presence in consulting since 1996 and served as Chief Geologist at Noront Resources in 2008-09.  James founded Bronzite Exploration Corp in 2022 and was selected as one of the inaugural cohort of BHP’s Xplor accelerator program in 2023 for his Somerset Trough VMS project in Nunavut, Canada.  He is currently Director of the new online Masters program in Mineral Exploration and Resource Management at Carleton.

He lives in Ottawa with his wife and daughter.
