PJ Akeeagok is a nationally respected Inuit leader whose career spans decades of transformative public service, landmark negotiations, and nation building across Canada’s Arctic. As Premier of Nunavut, he positioned Inuit leadership at the centre of Canada’s Arctic strategy and led the territory through major milestones, including the Nunavut Devolution Agreement, the largest land transfer in Canadian history, and a 1.5B implementation contract that strengthened long term Inuit Crown partnership. Before serving as Premier, PJ completed two terms as President of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association, where he advanced Inuit governance and secured major settlements that expanded regional capacity and economic opportunity. His leadership included co leading the 244.8M Tallurutiup Imanga Agreement, launching the QSTEP skills program, and contributing to the creation of the Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation. As Founder and President of Arctic Strategies Inc., PJ draws on this experience to support Indigenous led infrastructure development that strengthens sovereignty, drives economic growth, and delivers lasting benefits to Inuit communities. His background includes involvement in strategic files such as the Arctic Economic and Security Corridor, the Kivalliq Hydro Fibre Link, the Qikiqtarjuaq Deep Sea Port, and Iqaluit Hydro, which was added to Canada’s Major Projects List during his time in public leadership. PJ has shaped Arctic diplomacy and policy at the highest levels, contributing to Canada’s updated Arctic Foreign Policy, signing a historic MOU with Greenland, and releasing the Inuit led Arctic Sovereignty and Security Strategy. With governance experience at every level, he brings a rare combination of political leadership, strategic insight, and lived Arctic experience.
