This two-part session will explore the intricacies of major project development in Canada. In Part 1, Achieving One Project, One Review: Seeking Streamlining and Efficiency, we'll delve into how we can achieve “one project, one review”, what lessons can be learned from Bill C-5 and provincial equivalents, and what the roles are of government, proponents, and Indigenous communities in making this happen. Part 2, Seeking Common Ground: Indigenous Participation in Project Development, will discuss the future of Indigenous participation in regulatory processes for mine development in Canada. Panelists will address Indigenous leadership in project assessments, the implications of UNDRIP/FPIC, and legal challenges relating to land claims, cross-border assertions, and regulations.
