Jonathan Drimmer is Partner at Steptoe LLP, in Wasington, D.C., and leads its Business and Human Rights practice. He is a Senior Advisor at BSR, Senior Advisor to the Global Business Initiative on Human Rights, and Strategic Advisor to the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPs). He advises companies, governments, NGOs and multi-stakeholder initiatives on business and human rights issues, and is generally considered one of the world’s leading business and human rights attorneys. He has been appointed Independent Monitor to four independent human rights mechanisms, has helped develop leading business and human rights tools, and is a thought leader on business and human rights-related issues. He is former Deputy General Counsel at a global mining company, where he designed and oversaw its human rights program. He is a former Bristow Fellow in the Office of the U.S. Solicitor General, taught international humanitarian law courses at Georgetown Law Center for nearly 20 years, and has served on the boards of directors for Human Rights First, the UN Global Compact Canada Network (Chair), the VPs, TRACE International and Foundation, Transparency International Canada, and multiple other NGOs. He is ranked Band 1 in Chambers for Business and Human Rights Law. He was on the US Federal Advisory Council for Responsible Business Conduct, the US National Contact Point’s External Advisory Board, and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the Future of Good Governance. His accolades include recognition as one of the world’s leading attorneys in ethics and compliance by Ethisphere Magazine, a “Regulatory & Compliance Trailblazer” by the National Law Journal, one of the top 100 in-house counsel in the world by Legal Era, and one of the 100 most influential in-house counsel in the U.S. and in Canada by Law500.
