My post-graduate mineral sector career commenced at Placer Dome, where I filled various exploration, mining and managerial roles in Australia, Papua New Guinea and Canada. After a decade-long apprenticeship at a major mining company, I moved to the buy-side twenty years ago, initially working as a Mining Analyst then Senior Mining Analyst at San Francisco-based Passport Capital. Post-Passport, I had two stints, spanning more than nine years, working as an Investment Strategist/Analyst and Portfolio Manager for various subsidiaries of Sprott Inc. I resigned from Sprott at the end of March 2023. I currently have several part-time roles: assisting Centerra Gold with growth initiatives, providing technically-focused investment reviews for the Netherlands-based Commodity Discovery Fund, and I am an Independent Director of Scout Discoveries, a relatively new precious metal exploration company focused on their Idaho portfolio.
My education culminated with the receipt of a Ph.D. in Economic Geology from James Cook University of North Queensland in mid-1995. After graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Earth Sciences from Birmingham University in 1991, I worked for a year as a mud logger and data engineer on several North Sea oil rigs for a Schlumberger subsidiary.
