Steven E. Zhang is a research geodata scientist at the Geological Survey of Canada, Natural Resources Canada. He has a B.Sc. in Physics-Mathematics with Honours and a Ph.D. in Earth Science, with a focus on computational methods. He has been working in computational geoscience since 2006 and statistical and machine learning since 2018. He has given numerous international workshops and university courses in statistical and machine learning, geodata science, computer programming and related topics. His recent research focuses on advancing geodata science, particularly the statistical and scientific merit of large-scale mineral prospectivity mapping. He is actively researching geodata quality, scientific method development, replicability, scientific baselines and comparative methods, and geoscience-driven task formulation.
