Case study to be provided by Chiefs and Technicians involved in the Regional Assessment Working Group, including over 15 First Nations communities, as who will speak to their current Indigenous-led regional assessment in the "Ring of Fire". This regional assessment is the first of its kind, showcasing an example of First Nations led impact assessment processes and their ability to undertake a cumulative impact analysis whilst minimizing legal delays through collaboration and co-development. . The Chiefs of Ontario Session will include relevant Chiefs and Technicians who will speak to their own experiences with the "Ring of Fire" First Nations co-developed regional impact assessment, and how a First Nations led approach leads to increased environmental protections, water protections, and societal benefits for the community. The discussions will look at how the private sector can support First Nations consultation rights by working directly with rightsholders and how First Nations co-developed projects help to de-risk development.
