Canada was the fourth leading diamond producer by volume and value; 13.3 million carats worth approximately US $1.1 billion. Natural diamond mining is a significant contributor to the economies of Angola, Botswana and the Canadian Northwest Territories. While 80% of the diamonds used in jewellry are natural, lab-grown diamonds now comprise approximately 20%.
